Support our commercial composting operation at Richland Farms as we fight-to-scale in one of the toughest possible years to launch. Countless USDA and EPA grant opportunities that existed during our startup in 2023 and 2024 have disappeared; and early-stage businesses like ours face major barriers to traditional lending. Investors and legislators have been slow to act; and too many funding options come with restrictions that limit impact instead of expanding it. For example, one investment firm touting the headline, "Investing in the Future of Regenerative Agriculture" told me last week that we could only accept waste from organically certified dairies to qualify for their funding. There are about 780 dairies in Indiana. Only five are organically certified.
We need your help to seize a major opportunity close to home. We have the opportunity to begin processing a substantial volume of dairy waste from Warren Dairy, just 12 miles from our farm. This will allow us to scale up from processing 60 yards of organics a week to 60 yards a day.
With your support we can purchase larger equipment, cover operating expenses, and launch by April 1. We can produce significant quantities of organic soil amendment within about 15 days, just in time for spring planting across West Central Indiana. I just read a report that fertilizer prices have already risen from about $280 a ton to over $400.
Act now because Indiana corn farmers are facing a fertilizer crisis. Supplies are tightening, prices are climbing sharply, and farmers are already calling and e-mailing us every day asking whether compost and organic soil amendments will be available as an alternative source to inorganic fertilizer.
This stockpile is about the size of a football field and 16 feet high. This bedding material makes awesome compost.
